Paid video subscriptions in India (2024)
Across 47 million households — more than two paid video plans per home, on average.

India’s subscription economy is built on amounts that feel skippable: ₹149, ₹299, $20. UPI AutoPay and saved cards mean you approve once and the money keeps leaving. SubTrakr exists so that month has a single rupee total, split into personal and business, with WhatsApp before the charge — not a mystery merchant on the statement.

How far people undershoot the real bill
Monthly pricing feels small. The year does not. That gap is where unused plans hide.

Estimated urban household subscription month
Many families guess closer to ₹2,500. The difference is rarely one big purchase — it is ten quiet ones.
Source: ET Edge InsightsNot “find cheaper Netflix.” Not another payments app. SubTrakr does not charge your cards and does not sit in the UPI path. We solve invisibility: overlapping OTT, dollar SaaS next to rupee plans, personal music on the same AutoPay as office tools, and trials that convert because nobody got a reminder on a chat they actually open.

These are composite scenarios — typical leaks we hear in India — not quotes from named customers. If one of them is your month, the waitlist is the next step.
Scenario 01 · Household
The situation
A couple keeps Netflix, Amazon Prime, and JioHotstar “just in case,” plus YouTube Premium on family. Each looks cheap. None of them talk to each other. AutoPay is on.
The leak
India had 111 million paid video subscriptions across 47 million households in 2024 — more than two paid video plans per household on average. Stack a third OTT you barely open and the year is a full EMI you never approved as one decision.
What SubTrakr does
Put every OTT on the personal profile. Home shows the month in rupees. WhatsApp fires two days before renewal so you cancel the one nobody watched — not after the debit.
You keep the one screen the family actually uses. The others stop quietly compounding.
Scenario 02 · Freelancer
The situation
A designer pays Creative Cloud in dollars, ChatGPT Plus in dollars, and Netflix in rupees. The card statement is a jumble of merchants. Mentally, “fifty-five dollars” still feels like fifty-five rupees of pain.
The leak
People routinely underestimate subscription spend by about 40%. A USD seat converted at a real rate is often the largest line on the month — hiding next to a ₹649 plan that feels more expensive because it is in rupees.
What SubTrakr does
Leave native $ on the row. Let Home total the month in INR. Attach the card’s last four so a failed RBI e-mandate or an expiry is a reminder, not a lockout email from Adobe.
The month is one rupee figure you can plan with — without pretending a dollar plan is a rounding error.
Scenario 03 · Small team
The situation
A founder’s PhonePe pays personal music, a gym trial that converted, and business SaaS. GST invoices need work tools only. The bank SMS does not know the difference.
The leak
UPI AutoPay made recurring debit effortless. The mandate list is easy to ignore. Personal and work spend then land on one statement, which makes both tax time and “can we afford this?” guesses.
What SubTrakr does
Two profiles, not tags. Business holds Figma, ChatGPT, and domain renewals — with GST details where you need them. Personal holds Netflix. Switch in one tap.
Work books stay clean. The forgotten gym trial is visible before it renews again.
